Trails for Business
Both Kate and Claire have had the pleasure of working with the City of Burlington on a number of mobility related plans including the original 2009 Community Trails Strategy.
In 2025, the City moved forward with a project to update this strategy, retaining Take Consulting with partners Lees & Associates, LURA and Accessibility Simplified to support City staff. What started as a plan update has turned into a robust rethinking and repositioning of trail infrastructure and experiences within the City of Burlington – widely known as a trail hub in the GTHA and Ontario. Based on a commitment to “create trails for all and trails for good”, Take Consulting has been working with the City to develop a series of strategies that leverage research, local context and conditions, potential solutions and ultimately implementable recommendations that address trails that are good for the environment, the future, wellbeing, mobility, learning and business.
While all unique, the Good for Business strategy builds upon the City’s destination stewardship plan making important and necessary links to existing municipal strategies while bringing a new approach to trail planning and design with a focus on encouraging trails as places and spaces. It highlights opportunities and recommendations to explore a range of trail experiences to maximize participation and activation including hiking trail experiences, nature and vista trail experiences, cultural trail experiences, food and drink trail experiences, educational trail experience, uniquely branded trail experiences, seasonal or event trail experiences and play trail experiences.
Take Consulting has been pleased to work with the City of Burlington on bringing an innovative mindset to trail planning, design, promotion, maintenance and management.
